Palghar is the 36th district of the Maharashtra state. It is spread between the west coast of the Arabian Sea and the Sahyadri Mountains rows that are east of the Northern District of Palghar. The district was created by bifurcating the Thane District on 1st August 2014 . The Palghar district is surrounded in North by Valsad / Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Northeast by Nashik, East by Thane, South by Thane, South-west by Greater Mumbai and West by Arabian Sea The district has 1008 villages and 3818 sub-villages as well as 477 gram panchayats. The total Geographical Area of the district is 9,558 sq.km. As per census 2011, the total population of the district is around 29,90,116 of which 13,52,283 in urban and 16,43,145 in rural. The district has a total of 8 talukas, Mokhada, Talasari, Vasai, Vikramgad, Palghar, Dahanu and Wada. The district has 1008 villages and 3818 sub-villages as well as 477 gram panchayats.
